How to Export Data from Front Desk

Need to get your data out of Frontdesk?  We've got you covered with these steps.

  1. Open Front Desk
  2. Click Reports -> Patient List
  3. A patient list window appears with several filtering options
To get all data under ‘patients’ check ‘all’
  4. Under report type check ‘patient List’
  5. Uncheck any other filter options
  6. Click the Export button on the right hand side of the window
  7. Choose Excel

You'll need to open this file in Excel and save as a CSV.  Once that's done, you can follow our instructions on Importing your patients into Cliniko.

This part is easy, how do you get the clinical notes out? According to FrontDesk the notes are kept in an encrypted database and needs manual export?

    Hey George,

I'm not aware of how to export notes en-masse, and we unfortunately don't have an import tool to handle it if you can. I know you are able to export an individual's notes in PDF format, and then attach that to a Cliniko patient as a file attachment - but that's going to take a bit of manual migrating.

Thanks Jim, we looking at nearly 10 000 patients over many years where the clinical notes need to be with the patient file. Not going to be an easy task.

    Certainly!

I don't usually recommend transferring all patient data across - only focus on your current patients. As long as the old notes are in a retrievable and secure format should you need them one day, you can get your other patient's into Cliniko.

I know it's still a big task though! Sorry I can't help more!

Hey George, did you ever find a good way to do this?

    Blake no.
The patient contact information is easy to export and get into Cliniko. But Smartsoft will hold you to ransom to get the clinical notes out. Then you need to match it with the patient information.

So, you ended up exporting and import clinical notes manually one-by-one? Oh gosh

No ended up staying with FrontDesk. 10 years of patient information was not that easy to get out. Their clinical notes are stored in an encrypted database and not directly linked to contact info.
