Restyled calendar controls

We've just restyled the controls above the calendar. They are now easier to use on touch devices and also there is more room on the page for other elements.

Another change . No warning.. Very annoying when you are in the middle of an appointment on the phone and everything changes before your eyes.

Not sure if I like the different locations changed. Much easier to click on the Clinic name than having to Click and then Scroll.Wasted time. Can live with the other things on the other side of screen.

Agree with above - a word of warning would be appreciated. We had a line of clients waiting while we tried to figure out where everything had gone. Not sure why you'd consider making a change like that in the middle of an AEST workday.

I can appreciate you wanting to make things easier for touchpads. I'd be interested to know your mobile vs browser logins (and time spent on each as I only use mobile to check my day) as you've just made a one-click job into a two-click job on desktops.

Cliniko support happiness is down to 93%. Hope this isn't a slide...

Thanks for the feedback, it's appreciated.

@Marie, we are still considering other options for the business selector, so we may make further improvements to it.

@Steven, The number of people using touch devices is increasing rapidly.  Looking at the current numbers isn't really a great measure though until Cliniko works better on those devices. As for the one-click -> two-click point, is it the business selector you're referring to? How often do you change businesses?

Support happiness isn't a slide, our support team is doing better than ever.

    Thanks for the reply Joel.

As a multidisciplinary practice we utilise the business selector frequently to alternate between each discipline's calendars (eg. physio, doctor, exercise physiology etc). So for our reception team you're looking at changing disciplines with each client coming to reception. If you've got a more effective way of doing this I'm all ears, but this allows us to not have our calendars cluttered with practitioner diaries of different disciplines.

Your support happiness has been a consistent (and impressive) 98-99% whenever I've seen it.

We use the business selector in the same way as Steven, so we have gone from one click to two...

This is disappointing.  I too use the business selector option multiple times daily (4 clinics) and this new format just isolates 1 clinic too much and adds more work.  Was the change solely to make it more convenient for touch devices?  I guess I'm the only one using a keyboard to take notes.  While I'm on notes, why not have a useful upgrade to note taking where basic anatomy graphics can be integrated.

I hope this is not a permanent change.  Why not make it an option to choose 1 format or the other?

I don't really mind it either way, but I have previously suggested that if changes like this are to be introduced without warning, they are introduced first as an option so that people can explore the idea and if they prefer it, they can stick to it. I think this is just a philosophy which you guys would do well to heed. Clearly, some people are using Cliniko on an iPad mini, and others (like me at the moment) are using a 27" desktop monitor. One UI is simply never going to work for all devices - Microsoft learnt that the hard way with Windows 8.0 and if they can't do it, I'm sure you can't either.

There could be a whole section under Settings of UI choices that people could customise to their hearts content and this way it doesn't alienate people who get used to one way of working only to log in one day and find that things have changed. It's also a little embarrassing for my staff as I have to keep explaining to them that unlike almost ever other EHR software, Cliniko may look different from one day to the next if changes are introduced suddenly.

It shouldn't take a whole bunch of people complaining after a release to change it back. This is previsely what happened when the way that unchecked boxes were displayed on treatment note exports was changed - some people bitterly complained because the new change completely ruined their treatment note print-outs. Afterwards, the new change was changed into an option so that you could have it either way.

I know Cliniko don't want millions of options to confuse people, but if you want your EHR to work for everything from iPhones to desktops - not to mention for everybody from massage therapists to brain surgeons, you'll need to have a fair bit of customisation I think!

    Hi All,

Firstly this change wasn't just for touch devices. There are quite a few improvements planned for the appointments page, this was one of them. It works into the bigger picture plans we have.

Answering a couple of recurring comments here:

    1. Warning of a change. We will warn if a change coming is going to break your existing workflow or we've moved something and you won't know how to perform the action you're used to doing. This wasn't the case here, items were restyled and the controls were changed, but they are obvious how to use. I'm confident there wasn't anyone that was no longer able to change their business or use the calendar controls.

    2. Options for interface elements. This isn't an approach we plan to take.  Sometimes different users need different functionality, that's when we bring in options.  The interface itself though, that's our job to make it as good as can be. We do have the ability to have the interface look different for different size screens and devices, we'll be doing that more and more in future.  We won't be developing one interface for all, as mentioned, that just doesn't work.

Just in general, we did change the interface.  This is required to keep our software as good as can be. We need to make changes for new screen sizes and devices, and we need to make changes to take advantage of new knowledge.  This knowledge might be about how our customers use Cliniko, or new research on usability and interface design.  We're committed to Cliniko being a great system for the next 20 years, not just a couple, so we'll keep improving it every day.  Sometimes that's in the interface, sometimes not (we've been releasing 5+ updates a day lately, only some are noticable).

One thing I am sure of, our constant updates to Cliniko are what is going to make it the best software available for years to come.

Also, so you don't think I missed the point, we're really concious of how we do our updates. If we update anything that will break your workflow, we'll handle it in a different way.  We are also listening about the 2 clicks, and may make further improvements there.

I too much prefer to "old style". It is just easier to be able to see all day selection and click on it directly.... :(

Joel there are many reasons I use Cliniko.  One of the major reasons was the ability to integrate multiple business identities on one calendar.   Clicking on each business tab is much easier than clicking a drop down menu, searching for a business and then searching for the day I wanted.   I know that it's a small thing but it's disruptive.

I look forward to improvements because they are usually quite good...this one isn't.  There is a reason you are getting so many complaints.

Those that prefer the old business selector over the new one, how many businesses do you have?

I too agree that the change to a drop down business selector is a poor choice. We run 8 businesses with a call centre + 4 reception hubs all needing to transfer businesses easily and efficiently. Our practitioners also work between multiple businesses and need quick access to difference appointment diaries. This change has proven time consuming with all of our staff extremely unhappy. I hope this is only a trial and a return to the old tab style returns.

The Change to drop down is a very poor choice. Just made it more complicated for my staff! Can we please go back to the old style? PLEASSSSEEEE

We also use the business options for each modality. Therefore our receptionists are swapping between the businesses every time the phone rings, every time someone wants make or reschedule a booking and every time a payment is taken. It also seemed much cleaner and easier to have the "today" ">" "<" buttons over near the calendar on the left (eg. if you want to book someone 5 weeks ahead, you press the 4 then have to go across the screen to > ).

Thanks for the feedback.  Just on the skipping ahead 5 weeks thing, press 5 on the keyboard to jump ahead 5 weeks.

    **Business drop-down:

**We've recently added a second location and I now flip back and forth between the schedules many times a day. Drop-down is very annoying, I don't like it, I wish it would go away.

**Calendar controls moving to the right:

**Why the heck would you move the calendar controls away from the calendar?!? Totally backwards, please reverse. I personally don't really like that drop-down either but I can deal with it.

I will take your notes on the keyboard shortcuts into consideration. Maybe I can change my habit to using that; might even be easier. That being said, I don't think having a keyboard shortcut option is an excuse for a crappy layout on the actual computer screen.

Hi Joel, We only have two businesses and I'd say I prefer the old business picker format - just makes it really easy at a glance to see what calendar we're looking at. The change is definitely not a huge problem, though. Everything else is great.

We're currently working on some further changes to Cliniko's Navigation, which will definitely impact any decisions we make on the calendar controls (Don't worry, you're going to receive advance warning!).  We won't re-evaluate this until those changes are live.

Just a thought. I've been using the keyboard controls to move through calendar days. Of course I have to use the drop down menu to choose the clinic for that day. Is it possible to have each clinic day set to a clinic default so as soon as you move to that day, you are already at that clinic? I think that would save a lot of time.
