New fonts and dashboard redesign

We've changed the font in Cliniko from Lucida Grande to Source Sans Pro. Source Sans, we believe, is a more modern and legible font which looks beautiful for both paragraphs and headings. We've upped the font to a more readable and accessible size throughout the application too.

We also gave the dashboard a little facelift. A reminder of the previous dashboard:

We felt the dashboard was feeling a little dated and clunky. We've streamlined the message board by bringing everything onto one page, so the experience is now more akin to the functionality of social media sites most people will be familiar with. It's now much simpler to add a new message and to add comments. Here's a preview:

I have just noticed that you have redesigned the font on the cliniko appointment page.  I was wondering if there was anyway that we could actually change the fonts ourselves as I am finding the new font very small and quite hard to see the patients listed on our appointment days.  Could you please let me know as soon as possible, Thanks

    Hi Ct,

The font should be bigger than it was before.  Are you able to check if you have a zoom applied? Ctrl-0 (zero) on PC, or Cmmd-0 on Mac.

If not that, would you please email us a screenshot to support@cliniko.com so we can investigate.

    Thanks,

    Joel

    Hi Ct,

The appointment calendar is actually one page where the new fonts are not applied yet, so they shouldn't technically be any smaller or larger than before - but perhaps smaller in relation to other pages now we've introduced the new larger font everywhere else.

The appointment calendar is a little trickier to swap out the fonts, but I'll be working on tidying it up sometime soon.

Errors slip through though; if there's an element in particular that looks smaller than before, please send us a screenshot as Joel says and we'll take a look.

    Cheers

    Hi Ct,

Thanks for the feedback.  We've just released an update that increases the font size on the calendar events.

    I hope that helps.

Love the new fonts and updated dashboard.  Calendar is much easier to read.

Not sure this is the right place to put in the request but can you please increase the width of the "Name" column on the Products page.  Some of our product names are a bit lengthy and it would be great if we could see the full name.

    Cheers,

Hi Joel, the new fonts are just a little too large on the iPad screen. When you open a new appointment box up, the edges are out of sight of the text, so you have to scroll right to get to the edges of the text. Could this be rectified by reducing the size by say just one down?
    Cheers....

I think overall I liked the other fonts better, they look a bit big on my PC. Also, not a fan of the archaic font in the open multiple line text boxes. For example the "invoice to" and "extra patient info" box when creating an invoice.

    Hi Guys,

I prefer the old font, simply because I got used to it.... New font feels strange, and in some places, particularly numbers can be a bit difficult to clearly see.

    Cheers,

Agree with Valerie - the "invoice to" and "extra patient info" font needs to change! We reckon it looks like we've just been sent a text-only email that we don't want to read so just hit delete automatically.... ;-)

Also, when we do the daily payments report (which we print at the end of each day), there's now heaps of wasted space in each row on that table, and so we're going to end up printing off more pages than before. Can the space be cut down, on the table with each patient's name/payment type/etc, and also in the summary of the payment types at the top? (see pic attached)

@Valerie or @Ian, any chance of a screenshot of the bad font on invoice to or extra patient info? I don't have it happen on mine.

Thanks Ian.  That looks different to mine.  My whole screen looks like this http://cl.ly/image/322J0M413M1F.

Are you able to send me a full screenshot, and also which browser you're in.

    Thanks!

Not that it really matters that much, it's just an aesthetics thing.

The extra space on payment reports etc, however, is more important...

Just checked IE and it does the same font thing there too.

Thanks Valerie, Ian and others for the heads up on the font on the text inputs. I've chased it down and should have a fix on that shortly.

Looks great Cliniko peeps.... It is fresher and more legible.

Kelly's fix just went live.  No more horrible font in the text areas! Thanks for letting us know.

@Darren, I can't recreate the issue with the appointment box issue. Could you send a screenshot to  support@cliniko.com so I can take a look? (Briefly press the home and power buttons on the iPad at the same time).

I loved to old fonts much more than the new. The old fonts were clean and had a nice minimal feel where as my calendar now is all bold and has a clunky feel. I also like the links when they were small and discrete rather than big and pink.

I agree with Stephen. Old fonts and discrete pink links were far far far better for the appointment book. Too much bold.

Thankyou for upgrades but the new font are a tad too big for our screen and iPad… although the contact links look better

Sorry not to be more positive and we do appreciate the effort but we don't really like the new fonts either.

The dashboard in particular looks old fashioned and is really spread out and messy.  It was neater before and easier to read.

  • Avatar
    Ian Lawson

Yep, agree with @Zoe, "neater" is just how I would describe the old look. The new font is modern and looks nice, but it's a taller font and adds much more white space between lines. Plus the bold doesn't look as good with that font. Much more scrolling required on pages where there's lots of text (eg. dashboard, especially draft treatment notes area).

I agree with what would seem to be the majority consensus.  I really appreciate the work you guys are putting in, but I think you are going down the wrong path.  The whole look, for me is a step backwards, The header colours are just to bright and lack contrast, I have tried to give it time to adjust, but the old look was much much better, clearer, cleaner and I think more professional looking.  The dashboard looks less streamline and more jumbled and seems to take a long time to load, I also agree that the fonts and links looked better previously.

Sorry guys, I know you are putting a lot of effort into this, but I think the old saying applies, "don't try to fix what isn't broke!".  Please bring back the old look, prior to all these change!

Just my honest opinion, thanks again guys!

yes I would agree with Ian , Zoe and others - the new font maybe cleaner  but I think its readability is less effective  (too tall & boldy) than the previous font , ie it maybe good for headings but not good for general text reading.

the large pink links on the left are just awful and should be reverted IMHO

How about an option where we can choose between the 2 ?

Sorry but I also much prefer old style.  All the extra scrolling makes it much less user friendly and time efficient.

I am having an issue since the recent update - when i click to create an appointment - the default is for a standard appointment - the time defaults randomly to minus 30 mins, or 0 mins? see pic 1, 2,3 (Prev defaults to 30 mins)

This can be corrected after i select the appointment type i want, and then the time is updated properly.

However with Unavailable time slots it no longer defaults to 30mins (prev set as) and i have to click over the time to change it. (which is much slower/clunkier than how it worked previously)

And re: the appearance: I don't really like the fact that on the Dashboard each comment section takes up a lot of space on the screen, so it's harder to notice if there any relevant notices to read through. It seem like i need to scroll a lot more than previously.

I do think Cliniko works/looks best for me - when it's clean, loads fast, and is more minimalist in style. I just need it to work well!

    Thanks Joel/team

I've taken to going to view in my browser and zooming out x2, it brings things back to the old size and everything fits more nicely (still bold though). It's great to see how many users are commenting on these changes, I think it's a testament to how much everyone loves Clinko and how integral it is in our daily lives. I like Oliver's suggestion of having a choice between the old and the new...

    Hi All,

Firstly, please don't zoom out or in on the calendar, it has some problems when you have done so.  @Derek, that would be causing your issues.

Most importantly, thanks for all the feedback.  We'll get some changes made in response to them.  I'll update here with more info soon.

    Joel
