We've redesigned the Cliniko header

A few days ago we added the refreshed Cliniko logo to the application header. Today we deployed a new header design. These are the first baby steps in freshening up the way Cliniko looks and feels over the coming weeks and months.

A reminder of how the header looked previously -

We wanted to lighten the background to be in-keeping with our Cliniko brand colours, to clean up the text shadows and to tidy up the account/support area on the right. We also wanted to add a subtle active state to the navigation tabs, so they depress a little when clicked.

Here's the new header -

You'll notice that the user account links have been tidied away in a menu that is revealed when you click on the welcome button in the top right corner. Here's an illustration of how that looks -

We think the new header looks great and we are really excited for the improvements to come. We hope you like it too :)

Hello. Firstly, I love your software. It has dramatically changed the way I do things. Thank you. Secondly and sadly, I don't like the new header. I noticed it immediately and perhaps my eyes will become adjusted to the different scheme but at the moment I find it hard to look at. It's not the layout, its the colours.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the feedback.

Are you able to describe a bit more what exactly you don't like (and why).

    Thanks,

    Joel

    Hi Joel,

I also agree with the comments from 1massage.  I think the original header colours are much better, there is just not enough contrast with the new colour scheme.  Everything is blue, even the white writing seems to have a blue tinge and for me makes it look, I don't know if washed-out is the right word, but to much blue.

I actually like the current colour scheme, and for me if I had a vote, I would would rather time be put into fast tracking the anatomical charts for patient notes or the online patient questionnaire.  I know a lot of users, including myself see these as a priority.

Just my two cents, hope this helps!

    Cheers, Tyraus

    Hi Tyraus,

Thank you so much the comments. I know we are working on some slight adjustments to the color based on feedback we have received.

I also wanted to take a moment to comment on the work we are doing. Cliniko employs a full time designer (Kelly). His job is to improve the look and feel of Cliniko as well as make it work well on all types of browsers. He recently completed giving our online bookings a face lift along with the Cliniko website. Since Kelly is not a developer he is not able to work on traditional feature requests.

I hope this helps explain things a bit and again thank you for the comments.

    Hi Kelly,

Unfortunately I am not a fan of the new colour scheme.  Way to Blue and BRIGHT.  With a very colourful schedule full of different appointment types and colour the original colour scheme was much more desirable.

If you could change it back it would be great!!

On the topic of the design of the "Appointment Page" allocating as much real-estate to the calendar as possible would be my suggestion.  Looking at the current design I see some wasted space around the calendar.  The font size and amount of space in the calendar header and left margin seems a bit excessive.  Possibly having a hide function to minimize the left side (2 month calendar, Practitioners and Availability) or even part of the header would help.

We work with 5 minute time slots, 15 pixels per slot height and have a calendar range 8:00 - 21:00.  On a 21 inch monitor we can only see 3hrs of the Calendar an a time.

Hi Joel. In answer to your question, its just too blue. Not enough contrast. I agree with Tyraus, the original was better. Cheers Andrew

I totally disagree! I think it looks much better.

I've spoken to our team and they have all said they love it!!!

They have all commented today saying "it's so much better" and "nice and crisp".

    Great work guys! :)

I think it looks excellent. Much cleaner, newer. Suits iOS 6 style better!

    Hi Bart,

Thanks for the reply, and I should have said, you guys are doing a great job, love cliniko!

I am just keen to see these other inclusions, especially the pre-appointment questionnaire.

Further to the topic of the header change, across different platforms I use firefox, chrome and the dreaded IE.  The blue also seams to clash with the blue colour scheme used in different browsers headers.  I am looking at firefox at the moment on a tablet and it is off-puting, the blue in the browsers search bar and the blue from cliniko almost blend togeter.  Again, for me, just no contrast to much sky/light blue colours.

    Hope this helps

When I try and view Cliniko on my iPhone (5S) there's something weird going on with the zoom. It didn't happen before the banner update, I'm wondering whether something happened at that time to cause this?

Basically it's as though I've pinched and zoomed in, but it won't let me zoom out again.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Ian

PS. For what it's worth, I think I preferred the old colour scheme. More contrast, easier to see tabs.

I've got no problems with the contrast for me. Then again i am 'relatively' young with 20/20 vision...hopefully for a few more years to come :-) I'm not sure whether i preferred the old or new style better. Logo definitely looks better though.

    Thanks Rhys.

We're working on the fonts now, so the contrast will be better shortly.

Also we fixed the iPhone zoom thing.

    Hi Joel/Bart,

Further to my other comments, if I can use the header at the top of this forum page as an example, in terms of colour scheme and layout, this looks great!  It's clean, the fonts look white and crisp, the black separator line through the single blue colour header really looks smart, even the tab separators give it a cleaner less cluttered look.  For me I would try and use a similar layout, this would tie everything in together nicely, in terms of Cliniko and your website.

    Just my two cents worth.

    Cheers, Tyraus

    Joel,

I'm not sure if our use is typical but we jump between tabs all the time.  Having the added contrast makes it much easier on the eyes and quicker.  Also even after a few days I find the Blue too Bright.  It's a nice colour but I find it takes attention away from the rest of the screen.  Ideally the header would be as thin as possible or even collapse/hide when you jump into the calendar.  Just my opinion.  I spend most of the day on a 13' mac book air and wasted real-estate tends to stand out.

    Hi Joel,

The old one was easier on the eyes for me.

    Cheers.
