All new Cliniko Mobile app

We just released a major update to the Cliniko Mobile app... here is a look at the new app:

We recommend you close out of the current app if you have it open, and then re-open it.  This will ensure it loads properly.

iPhone Users

If you use an iPhone, we highly recommend adding the mobile app to your home page.  This will allow the app to run full screen on your phone.  Even if you have already done this, delete the old icon and do it again, otherwise you won't take advantage of full screen mode.  Details are here http://support.cliniko.com/entries/21660368-add-the-cliniko-mobile-app-to-your-iphone

    This is a great update!
Really like the calendar view, much easier to see appointments. Is it possible to have a "go to" tab, to enable us to select a specific date?

looks Great - but is this only really for the Iphone ?  no nice new 2d calendar on our Blackberry and Windows 7 phones even after a browser refresh ie the same as before except a slightly improved home screen

Oliver, I have an HTC running android ICS and have the update, shouldn't matter what phone as this is a mobile website, not an app as such.  I did have to try three different web browsers before I found one that has full functionality, at least for android.  That was google chrome!

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers, Tyraus

Hi Tyraus, there is a "go to date" function already, just tap the date at the top of the calendar day view.

Oliver, It should work on almost every device, we choose a technology specifically for that purpose.   You might need to find a way to properly close your browser and reopen, it even might need you to delete cookies/data to refresh properly.  I know some iPhones required that.

I think there may be comptability isses with the blackberry and win 7 mobile browsers - on the blackberry clicking the Day button does nothing (other than change colour) ... but doing the same in Windows Safari browser does work and gives the nice new day view - the good news is this setting seems to be saved centrally so now the blackberry displays the new view - however its view only clicking (or touching (mine is a touch screen)  in the calendar  doesn't  seem to work....

Hmm, we do save the choice to your user account, so I can see how that worked.   As for the calendar, there should be a few touch events:

    • Swipe left or right to change days

    • Tap and hold (for a few seconds) on the calendar to add a new appointment

    • Tap and hold on a appointment to see it's details (including the ability to call or sms the patient)

    Does that help at all?

I should mention, we are using really cutting edge technology for the mobile app.  It is really hard to get it completely cross phone compatible, but it should already be pretty close.  We will keep improving it over time too (as well as the technology itself constantly improving).

    Hi Joel,

I think its just Blackberry limitations - so probably not worth investing time in trying to fix especially given its a product in decline... but anyway heres my test results:

    1) swipe left and right does work but lacks sensitivity ie it takes a few goes then the spinning update wheel comes up

    2) tap and hold does work but is intercepted by the browser tap and hold dialog, cancelling this then brings up the spinning update wheel for both new and update appointments

    3) most of the buttons work  (touch and click)  other than the Day  button (both click and touch)  and clicking in the calendar space (does work with touch and long hold)

We'll switch to the new Iphone5 soon...;-)

Thanks Joel, I didn't realise you could tap the date to bring up a "go to" calendar, such hidden treasures!

Talking to the wife, who has an iphone, she thinks it would be really useful to have a patient/client Cliniko app, something that directs them straight to the online bookings page.  If patients had a user name and password linked to their patient file in cliniko, this would reduce the need to keep entering name etc when booking online - a few clicks and there booked in!

Could somethink like this be a patient portal, to view previous appointments, maybe even download previous invoices or change a booked appointment, (within a designated timeframe).

Links to creating a user name and password could be forwarded with their confirmation email when a patient makes an initial appointment online.

    Regards, Tyraus

Oliver, thanks for the details.  We will improve it, but iPhone 5 would be a much quicker way :)

Tyraus, if you use multi-locations, tapping the location at the top will change that too.  I really like the idea of a patient app.  It's not something we will get to right away, but a really cool idea.  Pass on my thanks to your wife :)

    Hi Joel,

I went to the AppStore and type "Cliniko" but nothing came up. How do I find the App for my iPhone?

    Thank you, Ljupka

    Hi Ljupka,

Try looking here for instructions http://support.cliniko.com/entries/21660368-add-the-cliniko-mobile-app-to-your-iphone.

Basically you access it via Safari and then save it as an app.

    Hi Joel,

Having trouble tap and hold to view a patient details and swipping to the next day in "Day" view on the new mobile version of cliniko.  It only works some of the time but most times you tap a patient or swipe across the page and nothing happens, even if you wait a considerable time.   I have an HTC sensation running android ICS, this has a 1.5ghz procesor so I wouldn't think the processor speed would have been the issue! .  I have tried numerious web browsers and all seem to have the same problem or don't have much functionality at all.  Refreshing the page doesn't help.

I love the new look and functions but doesn't work very well on my phone at the moment.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues on android phones?

    Cheers, Tyraus

    Hi Tyraus,

On iPhone you can reset your browser history and cookies and it resolves problems like this.  Are you able to try similar?

Hi Joel, yes I cleared cache, cookies, browser history, passwords and anything else it let me.  Re-set everything, re-booted phone etc.  Still has same problem unfortunately!

I will see if we can find a similar device to test on, we have tested with a couple of Android devices (two of the guys here have Android phones, I am iPhone myself though).  Will let you know what I can find.

I forget to point out, this even happens when the phone is connected through wifi with ADSL2+ speeds.

Wait wait wait. Mine WAS working. But as of now isn't. I am on Samsung Galaxy S2. I can view patient details but not swipe across for the next day...

Just to confirm, one of the android devices we are testing on is a HTC Desire HD with Gingerbread.

We just tested again now on it and all working fine still, will investigate more.

Mine runs the next os up, ice cream sandwich.  Just a thought, could it be my data base size as we had problems once before with this?

Partner's phone Samsung Galaxy S3 running ICS is also not side swiping for consecutive days.

  • Avatar
    Joel Friedlaender

Ok, we will test ICS specifically.

Tyraus, database size won't affect it, we only send a small amount of information to the device.

Whenever I click appointments on the app, it just tells me error loading page. Is this an iOS 6 compatability issue? I have logged out, shut down, restarted, deleted and re-loaded the app none making a difference. Any other advice??

Hi , i knows its minor but when i go to change /edit the date of appointment on the mobile the days Tuesday and Thursday both use the abbreviation "THU"- very distracting for an OCD suffer :)

  • Avatar
    Joel Friedlaender

Luke, we have tested on iOS6 and it works ok for us.  Can you try on your mobile go to Settings > Safari and clear cookies and history (it will get rid of your browsing history but it's the only thing I can think to fix it).  Please let me know how you go.

Rodd, mobile apps have a lot slower bandwidth than the full web app.  Each bit of data we send to the mobile app can slow it down, we try to find anywhere we can to reduce that data.  In this case, by reusing THU for both days we were able to save a bit and speed things up.   It is also possible that is a lie and we will get it fixed asap.  Thanks for the report.

Hi Joel, Thanks for the advice, but didn't make any difference. Still just tells me error loading page. The home page appears clearly but it means I cannot see actual appointment times.

  • Avatar
    Joel Friedlaender

@Luke I will need to organise a phone chat with you.  If I can talk to you while you get the error, I can watch the logs and find out what is going on.  Are you able to email me with your phone number and a time that suits for a chat?  joel@cliniko.com

Mine is doing that weird zooming in thing that the old app used to do (before you fixed it) after I select the appointment type, only this time I can't seem to be able to zoom out again. Anyone else having the same issue?

We haven't seen/heard of that, which iPhone do you have?
